How To Take Great Underwater Pictures With iPhone X

Updated: Feb 6, 2019

oohhh yeah iPhone X is "water resistant"!? So you certainly want to know the grade of residency from your iPhone X. Apple says IP67, which means your iPhone can be temporary under water. IP67 is maximum 1m depth for not longer than 30min. Easy you're probably thinking, this is enough time to take pics inside pools or quick snorkeling shots in the ocean.

IP67 does specifys it needs to be pure water. Water in pools and ocean is not pure, the additive chlorine resp. salt can lead to major damage on your iPhone.

Even certain iPhones are rated as water resistant, Apple doesn't cover warranty for it.

During the time you are using your phone the grade of water resistance declines -> aging of sealing.

In case your Phone got contact with water:

- shut it down immediately

- put it in a box of rice and cover it

- let it chill for a day

If you are lucky and the water hasn't done any harm to it you might be able to use your phone again.

I always wanted a case which allows me to take right into water and keep it there!

Why to buy another device which needs to be learned first how to take perfect pics rather than using the phone you already know. + Its handy! Thats why I decided to buy a case for my phone. But which one is the best? Well, iPhone X is quite challenging because of its touchscreen and no home button. I decided buying the one from Aquatech. On the website I didn't get how it works but it looks like the quality was good. After receiving the box with this item, I was scared at first. That is not just a glass to check your screen, it's a transparent plastic sheet so you can actually operate the phone. Very interesting engineering, that's what I thought. Works very well!

Depth Rating - 33 feet / 10 meters

Construction - polycarbonate, aluminium, marine grade stainless steel, optically correct glass elements. Dimensions (WxHxD) - 5” x 8.75” x 1.75” // 127mm x 222mm X 45mmWeight- 18 oz // 510 grams

The Box arrives with following item: AxisGO X Waterproof iPhone Housing with Standard Lens PortLens Cap, Wrist Lanyard, O-Ring Grease Tube, O-Ring Removal Tool & Instruction / Setup Card

The housing also has threaded holes to mount it like everywhere -> be creative here :)

The picture above shows my flexible arm to mount it on handrails at our local swimming pool to film our DYN / DNF sessions.

If I would order again, I definitely would want that Pistol Grip as well. The handling is definitely better than without, especially with this start recording button at the grip.

Here a few iPhone of my underwater shots:

Never dive alone and let the stress at the surface! =)

Cheers Mirco
